9/20/14 - York City, PA - S. Court St

Around 1900 hours York City Box 99-9 sent companies to 237 S. Court for an automatic fire alarm. As units were enroute calls were received reporting a fire at the location. Engine 99-1 arrived on location with smoke showing from a 2 story, apartment building that formerly housed a printing company. As companies were stretching lines, command requested the working fire dispatch. Interior crews reported having a difficult time finding the seat of the fire while making an aggressive attack. Additional companies from the city and surrounding companies began to arrive as crews located the fire and were making attempts to initiate a knock down. High heat continued to build followed by heavy, black smoke emanating from the structure. Command requested a 2nd alarm and ordered all members to evacuate the structure. A defensive posture was established and companies set up aerial devices and big lines to pour water on the building which extended throughout the upper floors and roof. Crews would continued to douse water on the structure for several hours before the fire was placed under control. All occupants were able to escape the fire safely. Smoke from the fire blanketed parts of the city, primarily the downtown district as 75 firefighters from 7 departments battled the blaze.
