3/15/14 - Swatara Township, PA - Mohn St
Box 49-4 was toned out around 0030 hours for a reported house fire at 749 Mohn Street in the Enhaut section of Swatara Township. Chief 49 (Bradnick) keyed up responding and advised by Dauphin County Communications of multiple calls and PD on scene confirming a working fire. Chief 49 requested the first alarm assignment for RIT companies. Engine 49 (Swatara Township) arrived with fire on the first and second floors of an unoccupied, 2.5 story, wood frame dwelling. Engine 49 secured a hydrant and crews stretched a line to the front porch for an interior attack. Truck 50 (Steelton) arrived and assisted Engine 49 with fire suppression. After a brief interior attack companies were evacuated from the structure and went into defensive mode. Multiple hand lines and blitz fires were used to pour water on the structure and protect an unattached, frame duplex exposure on the B side. The bulk of the fire was knocked down in about 30 minutes. Crews remained on the scene for an extended period performing extensive overhaul to ensure all hot spots were extinguished. The structure, which was reportedly vacant, but had a squatter living in the home who escaped prior to FD arrival, was destroyed in the fire.
