8/22/23 - Steelton, PA - N. 2nd St
At 1935 hours, Box 501 toned for a reported house on fire at 459 N. 2nd Street, sending Company 50, Engines 91-2, 73, Wagon 4, Tower 1, and Rescue 40. Engine 50 reported a column enroute and requested the first alarm. Upon arrival, Engine 50 had smoke showing and heavy fire to the rear of a 3 story, wood frame, duplex. As companies began stretching lines, Chief 50 (Vance) requested the second alarm as fire extended to an unattached exposure. Harrisburg City Battalion Chief 7 (Bastinelli) assumed incident command. Multiple lines were stretched into the duplex at 459 and 461 and into the unattached, 3 story, brick multiple dwelling at N. 2nd Street. With the condition of the roof and walls of the fire building appearing to be deteriorating, all companies were evacuated from the duplex and master streams from the monitor of Engine 50 and aerial streams from Progress Truck 32 and Swatara Fire & Rescue Truck 91 poured water to darken down the bulk of fire. All searches were negative in all three buildings despite reports of entrapment early in the operation. Companies were on the scene for over 2 hours performing extensive overhaul and mopping up before units were released.
