1/8/21 - Lower Paxton Township, PA - Amherst Dr
At 0459 hours, Box 33-6 sent Company 33, Engines 30, 32, 34, Truck 35, and Rescue 40 to 407 Amherst Drive at the Pennswoods Apartments for a fire in the apartment building. Colonial Park Engine 33 went enroute with 3 personel and advise of multiple calls being received with smoke and fire visible. Engine 33 arrived shortly after to a 2 story, Type III, garden-style, apartment building with a well involved first floor extending to the second floor, and they would be stretching a 300 foot line to side A. Progress Engine 32 arrived as the second due engine and picked up Engine 33’s lay from Amherst and Woodwynne. Truck 33 arrived and set up op on side behind Engine 33. Chief 33 (Fogg) assumed incident command and requested the first alarm at 0508 hours bringing Engine 91-5, Tower 1, Rescues 36-1, 37, and Air 30 to the scene. 2 lines were stretched for the initial attack, one which was used from the exterior to make a knock on the bulk of fire while other lines could be stretched for an interior attack. The fire had involved several apartments and the cockloft upon arrival of the first due companies. Additional lines would be stretched to knock down all the visible fire and perform extensive overhaul as many void spaces allowed the fire to extend rapidly. All primary and secondary searches were negative. The fire affected 16 apartments and left at least 29 occupants displaced.
