10/17/21 - Dauphin, PA - Church St
At 0527 hours, Dauphin County Box 38-1 sent Company 38, Engines 37, 2, Truck 32, Rescue 20, and Tankers 37, 20, 2 to 302 Church Street at the Lions Club for a possible structure fire. Captain 38 went enroute and advised of a couple calls being received reporting the building on fire. An additional call from a passerby on Route 322 reporting a working fire prompted Capt 38 to request the first alarm assignment enroute. The first alarm was struck at 0523 hours bringing Engines 32, 35, 6, Tankers 29, 6, and Air 30 to the scene. First arriving companies were met with heavy fire showing from the rear of a 2 story, commercial building that housed both the Lions Club and Dauphin Middle-Paxton Historical Society. Initial lines were stretched from Engine 38 for an exterior attack. Truck 32 went in service from the Church Street side. Engine 37 set up their aerial from an open area on the D side. Evacuations tones were sounded to endure no companies were operating on the interior. All companies were advised of a burned through first floor on the Church Street side. Multiple handlines, aerial streams, and blitz fire set up to knock down the main body of fire. As daybreak set upon the scene, companies continued to mop up, douse hot spots, and salvage any historic items that could be saved. Fire companies from several departments across Dauphin, Cumberland, and Perry counties responded to the scene. The building was erected in 1826 and originally served as the location or Dauphin Public School. The day before the fire broke out the Borough of Dauphin celebrated its 250th Anniversary.
