At 1353 hours, Box 1-4 sent Squad 8, Wagon 4, Tower 1, Truck 2, and Battalion Chief 4 (Wise) to 1526 Thompson Street in the Allison Hill neighborhood for a structure fire. Caller reported the house on fire and no one was inside. Wagon 4, which was on the air at 17th and Derry, a few blocks from the address, keyed up that they had smoke showing from 16th and Derry Streets. Chief 4 requested the first alarm while enroute bringing Wagon 3, Rescue 69, and Air 13 to the scene. Chiefs 1 (Enterline) and 2(Souder) also responded to the scene. Chief 4 had a 2 story, wood frame, row dwelling with fire in 2 units. Squad 8 grabbed a hydrant just past the fire building and secured their own water. Access and truck positioning were difficult due to the narrow, tightly packed, street. Squad 8 led off with deck gun operations as members began stretching a blitz fire and other attack lines to prepare for an interior attack. The visible fire was quickly knock down but the fire had heavily involved the side B , attached exposure, and involved the exposure at 1522 Thompson Street. A dwelling at 1530 Thompson Street, separated by a vacant lot had heat damage and did contain some extension into the walls. Companies made an aggressive attack on the exposure buildings while the fire building remained a defensive operation. Truck 2 opened up at 1522 Thompson to cut off fire spread to the west of the fire. The bulk of fire was knocked in about 35 minutes and all searches were negative. Truck 32 and Engine 30 were special called for manpower and to assist with extensive overhaul. No injuries were reported and the fire affected 4 dwellings.
