At 0950 hours, Box 2-08 sent Company 2 (Duncannon) and Tanker 6 (Marysville) to 1909 State Road in Penn Township, just south of the Borough of Duncannon, for a building fire. Squad 2, Truck 2, Chief 2 went enroute and informed that the Sheriff’s Department was on scene reporting entrapment and the building well involved. Chief 2 requested the second alarm bringing in mutual aid from Cumberland and Dauphin counties to the scene. Companies arrived on scene with a 2 story, mixed occupancy, with heavy fire showing from the first and second floor. 2 lines were stretched for initial fire attack on a service garage with apartments above. Prior to FD arrival 2 Perry County Sherriff’s deputies assisted a family and pets escape from a second floor apartment. Another occupant in a second floor apartment jumped to escape the flames suffering from burns and critical injuries. Life Lion transported the patient from the scene. As conditions deteriorated, the building was evacuated and companies went in service with hand lines and master streams from Duncannon Truck 2 and Progress Truck 32. The bulk of the fire was knocked down in about 25 minutes with extensive overhaul required. Parts of the building collapsed further complicating overhaul efforts. The fire was placed under control at 1055 hours.
