At 2146 hours Box 1-2 sent Squad 8, Wagon 4, Towers 1, and Chief 4 (Wise) to 1608 State Street for a kitchen fire with possible entrapment. County also received a call for 1609 Derry Street while companies were turning out. Chief 4 had Wagon 4, 1 go to State Street and Squad 8 and Truck 2 to Derry Street. Before units could arrive, County received calls for Derry Street and all units responded to the Derry Street location. Chief 4 arrived, assumed command, and reported fire showing from the 2nd floor rear of a 3 story, middle of the group, occupied, dwelling. A first alarm assignment was struck bringing Wagon 3, Rescue 69, and Air 13 to the scene. A line was stretched from the Squad to the 2nd floor for an interior attack. A second line was stretched to the 2nd floor and a third line to the D side exposure. With the threat of the fire extending to the exposures a 2nd alarm was transmitted bringing Engine 30, 37-1, Trucks 32, 50, and Rescue 44. The bulk of the fire was knocked in 10 minutes with very little extension to both exposures. Units remained on the scene for an extended period performing overhaul. Primary and secondary searches were negative. One occupant jumped from the rear roof prior to the arrival of the fire department.
