12/26/17 - Harrisburg, PA - S. Cameron St
Box 1-1 alerted Squad 8, Wagon 4, Tower 1, Truck 2, and Battalion Chief 6 (Bradford) at 2107 hours to 200 S. Cameron Street in the area of Eddie’s Furniture for a report of a building fire. Caller reported a lot of smoke and fire to the rear of Eddie’s Furniture warehouse and there were possibly homeless individuals still inside. Squad 8 arrived on location and made forcible entry on a closed gate at S. 10th & Mulberry Street. Fire was showing from a one-story, concrete, vacant warehouse. Chief 6 requested the first alarm bringing Air 13, Rescue 69, Engine 37, and Chief 2 (Souder) to the scene. Multiple lines were stretched from the Squad and companies were able to darken down the bulk of the fire in about 15 minutes. Due to the structural integrity of the building no roof operations were performed and extensive overhaul was required to chase hot spots. Chief 6 special called Engine 30 and Truck 50 to the scene from Hummel Street. All searches were negative and the fire placed under control at 2208 hours. Numerous fires have occurred in this complex of dilapidated buildings over the years primarily from homeless people trying to keep warm. A side note, 2 minutes after this box dispatched, city and volunteer companies were summoned to the 400 block of Hummel Street for multiple calls reporting smoke from a building. Wagon 3 along with county mutual aid under the command of Chief 1 (Enterline) quickly contained a fire on the 3rd floor of an occupied, 3 story, middle of the row, dwelling.
