2-14-16 - Strasburg, PA - Lancaster Ave
At approximately 1540 hours Lancaster County Communications dispatched companies to 216 Lancaster Avenue in Strasburg Borough for a dwelling fire. Chief 5 enroute with heavy smoke showing, requesting working fire dispatch. Fire involved the first floor of an unoccupied, 2 story, wood frame dwelling with extension to a pile of firewood on the porch. Strasburg Truck 5 arrived first and laid a supply line to the front of the building. A hand line was stretched from Truck 5 to the front door and crews were able to get a good knockdown on the bulk of interior fire. Special calls for extra engines were requested as heavy fire consumed the wood piles and extensive overhaul needed to open up the walls and void spaces. The fire was brought under control in about an hour. The home was a total loss and 2 dogs perished in the blaze.
