11-3-15 - Paxtang, PA - Pike St
At 0004, Dauphin County Box 401 sent Company 40 (Paxtang), Engines 30 (Penbrook), 33 (Colonial Park), 44 (Lawnton), 91 (Swatara Township), Truck 32 (Progress), Tower 1 (Harrisburg), Rescue 50 (Steelton), and Air 41 (Bressler) to 3104 Derry Street for a structure fire. Chief 40 was advised of multiple calls reporting a dwelling well involved and requested the first alarm assignment. PD on location reporting the fire is involving a business in the 3200 block of Pike Street. Chief 40 had heavy fire throughout a one-story, commercial building, with companies going in service with exterior operations. Engine 40 laid in from a hydrant at 31st and Derry Streets and took a position near the Side A/D corner. Engine 44 laid in from a hydrant at Parkway Terrace and Derry Street and supplied Truck 32 which set up along the railroad tracks on the side B/C corner. Tower 1 also set up along the tracks near the side C/D corner and was supplied by Squad 8 (Harrisburg). Garages to the north were exposed to the fire but did not become involved. Command special called tankers to the scene due to water supply issues. Companies went in service with blitzfire, hand lines, and tower ladder operations and battled the fire for over an hour before the bulk of the fire was knocked down. Additional companies were requested to the scene for manpower. A partial collapse occurred on side A early into the operation. The fire was placed under control in about 2 hours with companies remaining on scene for extensive overhaul. The box was placed in service at 0800 hours.
