10-21-15 - York, PA - E. Poplar St

At 1739 hours Station 99 (York City) dispatched to 330 E. Poplar Street for a structure fire. Chief 99-1 on location with smoke visible from the rear. The working fire dispatch requested due to heavy fire involving the rear of (2) 3 story, row, dwellings. Companies went in service with an interior attack and a line to the rear. Shortly into the incident a mayday was issued for a firefighter down on the second floor. The mayday was quickly cleared after all firefighters were accounted for. A second alarm was requested to the scene as fire was extending the exposures on both sides. An evacuation of 326 and 324 E. Poplar Street occurred about 25 minutes into the incident. The fire was knocked down in about 45 minutes and a third alarm was requested for manpower due to extensive overhaul. The fire injured 2 firefighters, left 23 people homeless, and damaged four homes. Three juveniles have been charged with arson in relation to the fire.
