8/1/13 - Lower Windsor Township, PA - Walnut Valley Court
Just before 0800 hours fire units were dispatched to 111 Walnut Valley Court at the Lower Windsor Township Municipal Building for a structure fire. Reports indicating PD on location with heavy smoke from the building. A company officer arrived on location reporting a working fire with exposure issues and requested 5 additional tankers. Heavy fire and thick black smoke eminated from the one-story, metal and steel structure as fire fighters struggled to meet the water supply necessary to contain the fire. A second alarm an numerous special calls brought companies from across the western end of York County, Lancaster County, and Maryland. The fire, fueled by various maintenance vehicles, equipment, and flammable liquids, created explosions destoyed the building and all of its contents. The fire was brought under control in about 2.5 hours utilizing approximately 150 firefighters from 40 companies. A mayday was declared early in the incident but was quickly cleared and the firefighter was transported for observation. The building complex also housed a daycare but was not open when the fire broke out.
