11/14/13 - Harrisburg, PA - S. 15th Street
Harrisburg, PA - Shortly after 0100 hours, "A" platoon members were awakened by the single tone for a reported structure fire at the Harrisburg Park Apartments in the 1400 block of South 15th Street. Squad 8 on location with a 3 story, occupied, garden-style, apartment building with heavy fire showing from the third floor. The occupants of the home escaped by jumping from the third floor and were on the ground when units arrived. Captain 3 (Bradford) requested a first alarm and second alarm to the scene to assist with search and fire suppression. Two lines were stretched into the apartment where the bulk of the fire was quickly knocked down. The fire had extended into the cockloft but aggressive firefighting kept the fire from the running the void space. The fire was placed under control in about 30 minutes. The fire, one of many to strike the South Harrisburg apartment complex over the years, displaced approximately 30 residents. The occupants of the apartment were transported to a local hospital. A dog perished in the blaze and was credited for alerting the occupants allowing them enough time to make an escape.
