1/28/12 - Derry Township, PA - 13 Granada Building
Around 0325 hours the 48 Box sent Company 48 (Hershey), Engine 46, and Truck 46 (Hummelstown) to 13 Granada Building in the Briarwood apartment complex for a structure fire. Reports of an unaccounted occupant were quickly nullified as PD confirmed all occupants were out. Captain 48 signed on as responding and received the info from County Dispatch of multiple calls. Captain 48 went on location with heavy fire showing from a 2 story, occupied, garden apartment building. Engine 48 laid in from W. Areba Avenue and took a position on side A. Truck 46 arrived and set up on side C being supplied by Engine 46. Command 48 requested a second alarm bring in numerous resources from the area including Harrisburg Squad 8 for RIT. Heavy fire extended from the first floor to the roof and ran the cockloft to the exposures. A firewall adjacent to the fire building prevented fire spread to the west. Numerous hand lines and master streams knocked down the bulk of the fire in about 15 minutes. Crews entered the structure to extinguish hot spots and perform overhaul. The fire heavily damaged at least 8 units in the building and left several people homeless.
