8/9/12 - Derry Township, PA - Meadow Lane
Shortly before 0500 hours, fire companies from Dauphin and Lebanon County were dispatched to 877 Meadow Lane in the Milton Hershey School complex for a structure fire. Chief 48 (Leonard) went enroute and reports received by Dauphin County Communications indicated a working kitchen fire. Chief 48 arrived on location with fire showing from a large, one-story, student home with possible extension into the attic. Engine 48 (Hershey) laid in from the driveway and set up on side C. The crew from Engine 48 stretched two lines into the fire building. Truck 48 took position next to Engine 48 and prepared to go in service to ventilate the roof. All occupants were able to escape safely before the arrival of firefighters. Crews were able to quickly knock down the bulk of the fire in the kitchen but had to perform extensive overhaul to extinguish the flames in the attic area. Command 48 requested additional companies dispatched to the scene for manpower and RIT. Companies remained on the scene for about 2.5 hours before being released into service. The building suffered heat, smoke and water damage.
