8/15/12 - Susquehanna Township, PA - Brookfield Rd
Shortly before 0430 hours Box 32-1 sent companies to 3231 Brookfield Road in the Progress neighborhood for a house fire. Reports indicated multiple calls with heavy fire showing. The crew from Station 32 (Progress), who had not been in quarters too long after returning from the Steelton fire, quickly hit the street responding. Engine 32-1 went on location with a single story, ranch, dwelling with heavy fire through the roof at 3226 Brookfield Road. Engine 32-1 dropped a line at Brookfield Road and Progress Avenue and proceeded to take side A of the structure. Truck 32 followed and staged on side A also. Engine 33 (Colonial Park) picked up Engine 32-1's plug and supplied water for the initial attack. Two lines were stretched on the unoccupied structure as additional companies began to arrive. Engine 31 (Edgemont) picked up a secondary water supply from the west. Companies made an aggressive attack on the fire that had involved the entire structure. The bulk of fire was knocked down in about 20 minutes and units remained on the scene performing extensive overhaul. Command 32 marked control at 0507 hours. The fire is believed to have been caused by a lightning strike from a strong thunderstorm that moved through the area a few hours before. Two firefighters suffered minor injuries and the occupant was not home at the time of the fire.
