10/18/10 - Harrisburg - Forrest Street
Box 1-3 sent companies to the 2100 block of Jefferson Street at 1938 hours for a structure fire with entrapment. Uptown companies Wagon 3 and Tower 2 arrived to a working fire at 625 Forrest Street with confirmed entrapment. Members went to work with search and rescue operations and were successful in removing 4 victims from the rapidly spreading fire. Second and third alarms were quickly struck as heavy fire consumed at least (4) 3 story, brick, row dwellings including two which were vacant. Firefighters used several hand lines and aerial streams to control the fire. Despite the courageous efforts of firefighters 4 children and 1 adult perished in the fire. Companies remained on the scene an extended period time performing overhaul and assisting with the investigation. The fire is believed to have started by a space heater on the first floor. There were smoke detectors in the home but not working when the fire broke out.
