4/13/09 - Harrisburg - N. 6th Street

Approximately 0347 hours Box 1-3 sent companies to 1423 N. 6th Street in the Uptown section for a reported structure fire. Chief 5 (Berger) went on the air enroute and advised by County Communications they had received the fire alarm with PD on location with a fully involved building. Wagon 3 and Tower 2 arrived on location with heavy fire showing from a 1 story, unoccupied, gas station. Companies led off defensively with a 2.5 inch, smooth, bore tip line supplied from Wagon 3 to knock down the bulk of the fire. About 10 minutes in, Chief 5 requested the first alarm assignment as extensive overhaul would be needed to fully extinguish the fire. The fire building, “6th Street Market”, was heavily gutted and crews remained on the scene for about 2 hours. Companies on scene: Box: Wagon 3, Squad 8, Towers 1,2, Chief 6; 1st: Wagon 4, Tower 3, Rescue 69, Chief 2 (Soulier).
