1/26/09 - Harrisburg - N. 17th Street
Box 1-2 sounded at 0130 hours for a house fire with multiple calls at 74 N. 17th Street in Allison Hill. Reports indicated a basement fire. Squad 8 and Wagon 4 arrived from opposite directions and laid supply lines while Tower 1 took the front of the building. Chief 7 arrived reporting a working fire in a three-story, end of the row, occupied, dwelling. Heavy fire involved the basement and first floor as companies made the initial attack. Chief 7 (Horst) requested a second alarm as heavy fire was quickly traveling throughout all floors and the cockloft of the fire building. Aggressive truck work kept the fire from extending to the attached, long, row of exposures. Numerous hand lines were put in place to place in 74 and 76 N. 17th Street to knock down the fire. Due to structural instability all members were pulled out of the fire building during overhaul stages. The fire was placed under control in about 45 minutes. Units on scene: Box alarm: Wagon 4, Squad 8, Towers 1,2; 1st alarm: Wagon 3, Tower 3, Rescue 69; 2nd alarm: Engines 30, 37-1, Trucks 12, 32, Rescue 44, Air 13, Chiefs 2, 3. County mutual aid provided coverage at Stations 1 and 2.
