4/9/08 - Harrisburg - Berryhill Street
Squad 8 B platoon started their daylight tour expecting a fairly routine day. A few fire alarms, an accident or two, and maybe a structure fire call thrown in the mix. And the day was panning out to be that way when around noon a shooting behind the quarters of Station 8 broke the "routine". As firefighters investigated, they had a gunshot victim on 13th Street and a fleeing suspect on Vernon Street. Lieutenant 8 (Bair) and crew kept an eye on the suspect relaying his location to County. He was taken into custody about 5 minutes later a few blocks from the scene while Chief 4 (Hartman) attended to the gunshot victim. Around 1230 hours, with the adrenaline still pumping from the shooting call, County toned out Box 1-4 for a house fire at 1329 Berryhill Street. Calls were being received for flames from the rear of the structure. Squad 8 arrived on location with smoke showing from a row of 3 story, brick dwellings. Chief 4 (Hartman) reported a 1st floor kitchen going good. Several hand lines were stretched into the fire building and exposures while truck companies opened up. Firefighters were able to get a knock on the fire in about 10 minutes and performed extensive overhaul. The fire went 1st alarm+ bringing to the scene Squad 8, Wagon 3, 4, Engine 2 (reserve), Engine 6 (reserve), Towers 1,2,3, and Chiefs 1 (Konkle) and 2 (Soulier). Great job by the members of Squad 8 and the rest of the B platoon for their efforts today.
