Around 1430 hours, Dauphin County Box 456-1 (Chambers Hill) toned out for an automatic fire alarm at 4751 Lindle Road at the Holiday Inn. The box was quickly upgraded to a structure fire as a phone call from the hotel reported a smoke condition. Steelton Chief 50 (Vance) reported a heavy smoke condition on side B and instructed units to access that side of the building. Engine 41 (Bressler) arrived and secured a hydrant on the A/B corner while Truck 50 (Steelton) proceeded past Engine 41 to a position on side B where heavy, black smoke was issuing from a below ground door way. A line was stretched off Truck 50 to make an attack on the fire. Interior companies were met with heavy smoke and high heat as they knocked down a fire involving a section of the basement. With no water supply established companies exited the building momentarily until the water was established. As additional companies arrived, crews made an aggressive attempt to knock the fire but were having difficulty finding the seat of the fire. At this time Command 456 made numerous special calls bringing many companies from the area to the scene. Interior crews continued to attack the fire, believed to be in the ceiling, as a persistent smoke condition indicated the fire was still burning with intensity. Numerous ventilation fans were set up to clear smoke as firefighters were able to contain the fire. Companies remained on the scene for several hours performing extensive overhaul.
