Metro Harrisburg Fire Photos 2006
Tuesday, October 10, 2006 - Lower Swatara Twp - Route 283
Lower Swatara Company 59 sent to Interstate 283 southbound in the area of Route 283 eastbound for a reported vehicle fire around 0145 hours. Chief 59 (Sultzaberger) arrived in the area with nothing and requested a location confirmation. The location is in the area of a "cloverleaf" interchange connecting I-283, Route 283, and the Harrisburg East Interchange of the PA Turnpike and often confuses callers reporting an incident. Upon further investigation, Chief 59 found a fully involved pick-up truck hauling furniture on Route 283 eastbound just east of the interchange. Engine 59 arrived and crews stretched a1 3/4" line to knock the fire down. The fire gutted the pick-up truck but did not extend to the trailer. Units on the scene: Engine 59, 59-1, and Tanker 59.
