Firefighters spent several hours battling a stubborn two-alarm fire in Company 36's (West Hanover) first due area. Around 1730 hours, companies were dispatched to 6956 Sleepy Hollow Road for smoke from a structure. First arriving crews had heavy smoke showing and advised of a working fire. The fire building was a large, one-story, single family dwelling that had many additions making interior firefighting difficult. Command ordered all units out of the structure and ordered a second alarm. With the bulk of the fire knocked down, members performed extensive overhaul chasing hot spots throughout the structure. Due to a lack of hydrants in the area, a fill site was set up in the front of the structure, with water supply at Central Dauphin HS, more than a mile from the fire scene. No injuries were reported despite cold weather and a snow covered fire ground. At 2317 hours first alarm companies were dispatched to the same location for a rekindle, 45 minutes after the box was placed in service. Command 36 held the box to two engines and a tanker. While units were battling this fire, County Fire dispatched two other calls in the 36 Box area- a reported structure fire and an accident with injuries- both which were handled by stand-by companies and quickly placed in service.
