Sunday, July 3, 2005 - Lower Swatara Township - Interstate 283
A truck driver averted serious injuries when the tractor-trailer he was operating overturned on an exit ramp near the Harrisburg East toll of the PA Turnpike. At 1920 hours Co 59 (Lower Swatara), Engine 55-1 (Highspire), and York Co. Rescue 68 (Fairview Twp) were dispatched to Interstate 283 southbound on the exit ramp to Route 283 eastbound for an overturned tractor-trailer with injuries. Engine 55-1 arrived and reported such with confinement of the driver. Rescue 59 arrived and the crews worked for about 30 minutes to free the patient. Rescue 68 was placed in service prior to arrival. The trailer was hauling lime and not determined to be a hazardous factor although some unknown amount of diesel fuel spilled on the roadway.
