Metro Harrisburg Fire Photos 2005

Sunday, March 6, 2005 - Shiremanstown Borough - E. Main St

Shortly after 1500 hours Cumberland County 911 dispatched units to 256 E. Main Street in the Borough of Shiremanstown for a kitchen fire. Assistant Chief 3-22 (Dayton) arrived on scene and reported heavy smoke in the area. Units arrived to find heavy fire to the rear of a 2 story, occupied frame dwelling. The smoke could be scene when units hit the main drag going into the town. The fire spread to the immediate exposure, which was a row of two-story frames, and sent smoke to the others. The side 2 exposure had aluminum siding melted from radiant heat. As flames spread to the roof units were withdrawn and an exterior attack put into effect. The fire was placed under control in about an hour affecting 6 homes and leaving several people homeless. Fire was ruled Electrical. Companies on the scene: 12 (Lower Allen), 14 (Camp Hill), 22 (Shiremanstown), 28 (Mechanicsburg), 30 (Hampden Twp), 31 (Silver Spring), 37 (Navy Depot), 69 (Defense Distribution-York Co.). Units out over 3 hours. Companies 21 (Creekside), 64 (Dillsburg - York County), 25 (Monroe) and 6 (Marysville- Perry County) covered empty stations during the fire.
