Friday, December 30, 2011 - N. 5th Street - Dwelling Fire
Box 1-3 companies dispatched to 2524 N. Fifth Street for a structure fire around 0416 hours. Uptown companies Wagon 3 and Tower 2 pulled up with a working fire in an occupied, 2.5 story, brick duplex. Chief 5 (Horst) went on location, had heavy fire on the second floor rear, and requested the first alarm assignment. Wagon 3 secured a plug in front of the structure and stretched a line for the interior attack. Tower 2 went in service on side A for ventilation. The bulk of the fire was knocked down on the second floor and extensive overhaul required to check for extension in the exposure and on the third floor and loft of the fire building. Primary and secondary searches were negative. The Red Cross was summoned to assist with displacement of the residents.
