Sunday, August 22, 2010 - 1151 Market Street - 2nd Alarm
Box 1-2 companies dispatched to 1151 Market Street for a structure fire around 0110 hours. Squad 8 made the quick trip down Market and arrived to heavy fire showing from the first floor of a 3 story, brick, middle of the row dwelling. Chief 5 (Berger) requested the first alarm on arrival as the Squad led off with deck gun operations. The fire quickly extended throughout all floors and cockloft of the fire building and exposures. A second alarm brought county mutual aid to the scene. Companies went in service with tower ladder operations from Towers 1, 2, and Progress Truck 32. The bulk of the fire was knocked down in about 15 minutes. Firefighters continued to douse the building, a mix of occupied and vacant properties, with heavy water streams prompting command to establish a collapse zone. The fire heavily damage at least 4 dwellings and kept crews busy with overhaul trying to fully extinguish hot spots.
