Wednesday, July 29, 2009 - 1509 Vernon St - 1 Alarm
"A" platoon companies were back at it again early this morning battling a one-alarm fire on Vernon Street. Box 1-4 rang out at 0120 hours for the reported structure fire at 1509 Vernon Street in the fire scarred Allison Hill neighborhood. Squad 8 arrived with heavy fire showing from the first floor of an occupied, 3 story, end of the row dwelling and laid a line in from 15th and Vernon St. Chief 7 (Horst) arrived and quickly struck the box bringing Wagon 3, Tower 2, and Rescue 69 to the scene. City firefighters made an aggressive interior attack utilizing 3 handlines quickly knocking down the bulk of the fire and limiting extension. The fire was placed under control in about 20 minutes and displaced at least one family. Units on scene: Box alarm: Squad 8, Wagon 4, Towers 1,3, Chief 7; 1st alarm: Wagon 3, Tower 2, Rescue 69, Chief 1 (Soulier).
