Sunday, September 21, 2008 - 1300 blk Vernon Street
At 0645 hours Box 1-4 toned for a reported structure fire in the 1300 block of Vernon Street in the Allison Hill section. Reports indicated jumpers from the building and possibly people still inside. Squad 8 arrived on location first with heavy smoke showing from a 2 story, middle of the row, with apartments over a store. As companies went to work Chief 7 (Horst) requested the first alarm. Firefighters rescued an unconscious victim, who was still breathing, from the second floor rear and was taken to EMS personnel. Companies had to cut through the roll up doors where they knocked down heavy fire in the store. The fire was placed under control in about 45 minutes. Units on the scene: Box Alarm - Squad 8, Wagon 4, Engine 6, Tower 1; 1st Alarm - Wagon 3, Tower 2, Rescue 69, Air 13; Special call: Engine 30, Truck 32; Chiefs 1,2,3.
