Sunday, December 3, 2006 - S. Cameron Street

An 18 year-old Steelton woman was killed on a busy Harrisburg street following an early morning one-vehicle accident. At 0303 hours Squad 8, Tower 3, and Captain 2 (Eiceman) dispatched to 150 S. Cameron Street in front of the Jam Rock nightclub for an accident with injuries. Further reports indicated possible entrapment, vehicle on fire, and bystanders attempting to free the occupants. Squad 8 arrived on location and found a single vehicle that had struck and sheared off a telephone pole with confinement and no fire. Wagon 4 was dispatched to assist Tower 3 and the Squad with manpower. Community Life Team EMS unit MICU 1-5 reported a signal 12 (fatality) and 3 other occupants injured in the accident. The crash closed Cameron Street from Market to Berryhill Streets as crews worked to remove the wreckage and City PD began their investigation. Officials believe the driver, who was southbound on Cameron Street, fell asleep at the wheel and drifted onto the sidewalk before striking the telephone pole and hydrant on the passenger side. Luckily, no partygoers at the after hours club were struck by the vehicle as the club’s entrance and telephone pole are just feet away from each other.
