Harrisburg Fire Photos 2005

Thursday, August 4, 2005 - 1600 blk N. Cameron Street

Wagon 4, Tower 1, and Chief 7 (Kumpf) dispatched to the 1600 blk of N. Cameron Street at 1807 hours for vehicles on fire in a scrap yard. While enroute Chief 7 requested that Squad 8 be dispatched to the scene. Companies arrived and had a large pile of crushed autos stacked almost 100' high heavily involved and creating a large column of smoke. 10 minutes in to the call Chief 7 advised he wanted Wagon 3 and Tower 2 to the scene. Crews set up the platforms of Towers 1 and 2 spraying water on the intense fire. Tower 3 was special called bringing all city companies to the scene as heavy, toxic billowed in a northeast direction. Firefighters remained on the scene for several hours as the fire was deeply seated in the pile of cars ready for the shredder. Chiefs 1,2 and 3 also responded to the scene and requested a haz mat rep and set up booms in the adjacent Paxton Creek for water run off. This scrap yard has the been the location of a few fires in the past including a 2 alarm fire involving a building on February 23, 2003 and a November 6, 2001 working fire involving a pile of stacked autos.
