December 25, 2005 - 121 N. 13th Street
Around 0130 hours city firefighters were awakened by tones for Task Force 2 reporting a structure fire at 121 N. 13th Street. Wagon 4, Squad 8, Tower 1,2 and Chief 5 (Hartman) responded on first alarm. Units arrived to heavy fire from the second and third floors of a 3 story, occupied, brick duplex. With two lines working the fire Chief 5 ordered the second alarm bringing Wagon 3, Tower 3, York Co Rescue 69 (RIT), and Chief (Soulier). High winds fanned the heavy fire throughout the structure and threatened exposure buildings as crews battled the fire inside. Chief 5 requested a 3rd alarm which brought county units Engine 30 (Penbrook), 37-1 (Rescue), Truck 12 (Lower Allen), 32 (Progress), Chief 2 (Sevison), and Chief 4 (Reed) to the scene and other county units to cover empty city stations. With multiple hand lines in service and incoming units checking the exposures companies were able to make progress on the fire. Chief 3 marked control at 0228 hours while city units and recall members remained on the scene with extensive overhaul. The Red Cross was notified for displacement of 2 adults and 2 children.
