Wednesday, December 28, 2011 - Columbia Borough (Lancaster Co.) - Building Fire
At 2205 hours Lancaster County Fire Communications dispatched Columbia Borough fire units to 125 Bridge St at Gordon Waste for a building fire. Companies on location with heavy smoke from a large, commercial building that housed a recycling business. A second alarm was struck and crews went to work on stretching lines on the deep seated fire. Command 8 called for a third alarm that brought companies from York and Lancaster Counties to the scene. Firefighters battle the stubborn fire for hours before declaring control. The fire was contained to the main processing baler and paper bales prepared for recycling. No injuries were reported and damage estimates are unknown at this time. A sprinkler system is being credited with keeping the fire from causing more damage to the building.
