Shortly after 0700 units were dispatched to 15 S. Fileys Road for a church fire in the Siddonsburg section of Monaghan Township. First arriving companies encountered heavy fire conditions from the sanctuary. The church also served as a day care center and was occupied at the time of the fire. All children and staff were able to escape unharmed. The blaze quickly spread throughout the 100 year-old, brick church forcing firefighters to battle the flames from a defensive position. Two portable ponds were established to supply tower ladders and hand lines. Numerous companies from Adams, York and Cumberland County responded to the multiple alarm blaze and remained on the scene for several hours dousing hot spots. The church was destroyed by the fire which has been blamed on a lightning strike.
