Wednesday, December 23, 2009 - Ephrata Township - 840 E. Main Street
Around 1730 hours Lancaster County Fire Communications sent tones out for a building fire at 840 E. Main Street at JR's Cycle Shop. First arriving units from Company 1-5 (Ephrata) had heavy fire showing from the front of a metal-type, commercial building. An exterior attack was initiated early on for containment but the fire quickly spread throughout the entire building. Several special calls were made for manpower and tankers as firefighters battled the blaze for over 2 hours in below freezing temperatures before declaring control. 100 firefighters from 7 departments battled the fire which gutted the building.
